The Price is Right

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 2:53 am

It paid the price before, thus making it worthy of its price now.

A witness to CNN journalists’ faithfulness to their duty during a war coverage in Iraq last 2003, the CNN Hummer leveled with the Carrol Shelby’s 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra worth $5,500,000 during the 36th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Arizona held last January 15-21.

At CNN.com, it was revealed that real estate company Re/Max International Incorporated Founder David Liniger got the $1 million-worth winning bid of the "Warrior One" Hummer that toured military bases and medical centers across the nation before the said event. Its $1.25 million net will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that temporarily accommodates families of patients with major medical care in military hospitals and Veterans Affairs facilities.

"The guy that put the $250,000 in was bidding against me to the last minute," Liniger said in awe as he narrated how that same man turned around, placed his arms around him and said, "Hey, you buy the car, you get the car. I’ll add 250 to it." Liniger, a car collector and a consistent visitor of the Barret-Jackson Co. auction sales, was also a Vietnam war veteran and founder of Sentinels of Freedom, a foundation that aims to reach out to disabled soldiers.

He said that "Warrior One" is such a beautiful vehicle saying, "The military tries to take care of them, but once they leave Walter Reed, they’re on their own. Some of them don’t want to go anyplace. Some are highly motivated and just want to keep trying, and so for us, this is a beautiful symbol."

In November 2006, three years after the Iraq war coverage, The Learning Channel "Overhaulin" show renovated the CNN Hummer. Who would know whether it now has a new vent visor.

Facts gathered by octane-magazine.com showed that collectors must have spent an estimated US $112,000,000 during the said auction which featured about 1,271 cars sold at No Reserve. Nearly, 250,000 visitors came for the event.

"The collector car hobby continues to grow and demand was exceptionally strong for a variety of vehicles ranging from vintage Shelbys to superb customs, top notch muscle bars, obscure makes and even timeless Woodies," Craig Jackson, Barret-Jackson Auction Company chief executive officer said.

Biggest Classic Car Auction In Arizona

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 2:43 am
Car collectors would surely jump on a chance of owning a very valuable classic car.  Sand one place to get one is at auctions such as the one in Scottsdale, Arizona which has been dubbed as "The Greatest Car Show On Earth".  The auction is said to be attended by more than a thousand car enthusiast looking to get their hands on a classic car.

The Barrett Jackson Auction is the world’s largest annual sale of classic cars and it is safe to say that a very wide selection of classic cars will be available at the event.  Experts have predicted that the event will net tens of millions of dollars.  Last year, the event netted 112 million.  Even with the poor economy, experts are pointing out those wealthy car enthusiasts with money to spare are the ones buying the cars at the event so it will not be affected by the current state of the economy.

Leslie Kendall, curator at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles said: "Every time the economy takes a downturn, the value of tangibles goes up.  Vehicles are tangibles that you can use and enjoy, theoretically, if you buy them for the right reasons, a lot of people treat them as investments, there’s a lot of speculators out there that help the prices go up.  You’ll see a whole lot of people in their 50s and 60s. A lot of people who are as wealthy as they ever will be, right now, and they just want to reward themselves for having done well in life."

"There are lots of vehicles from our youth, and we recapture a bit of our youth, we get a bit of that old feeling back," continued Kendall.  "The cars are a great way to do it. The market for any quality old vehicle is going up."

XJ Coupé Brief History

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 1:47 am

The Jaguar XJ coupe is among the world’s most magnificent luxury cars. According to Wikipedia.com, 8,378-car run of 2-door XJ coupes along with a pillarless hardtop body called the XJ-C was manufactured between 1975 and 1978.

The coupé was apparently inspired from the short wheelbase edition of the XJ. The coupé’s extended doors were built out of a stretched regular XJ front door and flare fenders with a clearly noticeable weld seams below the interior section in which two front door shells were fixed jointly. It also goes along with a single outer skin. A small number of XJ-Cs was customized by Avon into convertibles with a pull back canvas top. However, it was not considered as factory merchandise. The six and twelve-cylinder models were both available.

The company had planned to launch the model in the early period of 1973. On the other hand, problems occurred with the window sealing that delayed its production. These cars endured water leaks and wind noise even though production was postponed.
