Vintage Moves To Los Angeles…

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 1:57 pm

Are you thirsting for pretty rare vintage cars? Are you in Los Angeles?

If you answered yes to both, then you can paste a smile on your face. Yes, 4 of the Woods Co. rare gas-electric cars will move to L.A.

Los Angeles Daily News reports:

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to take control of the Woods Dual Power Coupe and 67 other classic or historic cars and motorcycles, ending a 35-year agreement with the Petersen Automotive Museum. The county had loaned the cars and motorcycles to the museum seven years ago when the entities split, but a space shortage at the museum and a dispute over what to do with the vehicles drew growing concern. Under the new deal, the vehicles are expected to be returned to the county to be displayed at a new, leased facility.

Under the agreement, Petersen will retain 7 of the vehicles for display, including Los Angeles’ oldest surviving car, the Breer, dating from 1900. It also will keep a 1920s replica of the Anthony - Los Angeles’ second-oldest car, made in 1897.

The vote to return the cars to the Natural History Museum comes as it’s planning to open new galleries, including one focusing on environmental stewardship.

The Natural History Museum
, which is undergoing an extensive renovation, expects to put some of the vintage cars on display, lend some to other museums in Southern California and sell a good number.

"We thought hybrids were new, but they aren’t," said Tony Bell, spokesman for county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, who has been working to find a new facility where some of the vehicles can be restored. "We have the first electric car back in the (early 1900s). We really want people to enjoy them, especially the cars from bygone eras, and see how cars have evolved over time from a car with a parasol to electric cars to even nuclear cars."

One of the stunners is the Woods Power Dual Coupe. Another sensation came from the maker of the BMW Z3 radiator. The Raymond Loewy BMW is a very low, sporty coupe made in 1957. Loewy, the man behind the masterpiece, is famed for designing the Coca-Cola bottle and the Greyhound bus and logos for Shell, Exxon and Nabisco.

Also included in the parade of vintage masterpieces is the Duesenberg, a classic luxury car which was designed and manufactured in Pasadena.

The Holiday Season is just around the corner and for classic car lovers, the best gift might be a 1934 Packard Eight Sedan or some other vintage car. But looking for vintage cars in good condition is hard work. But in the United Kingdom, if you are looking for your dream vintage car, you might easily find it at the upcoming auction come November 27.

The Vintage and Collectors sale will be held at Blackbushe and numerous high quality vehicles will be up for grabs. Here are some of them according to this site:

  • 1934 Packard Eight Sedan: was originally supplied to Fiorello H. LaGuardia, a prominent political figure in the US who served three terms as Mayor of New York from 1934 to 1945; was imported to the UK and restored some years ago and has been maintained as part of an impressive stable of Packard motorcars.
  • 1924 Talbot 10/23 All-Weather Coupe: offered with a bulging history file, which shows the car was previously the property of Howard Carter, the famous Egyptologist; retains its original Hertfordshire registration number and is offered with a V5 registration document and MOT certificate current until July next year
  • 1961 Jaguar Mk 2 3.4: finished in Cotswold Blue with grey leather trim and is in superb condition following a detailed restoration undertaken between 1996 and 2000.

These vehicles are so rare that’s why they are also very valuable. The vehicles to be auctioned off at the event are still in good condition as they are made tough just like VW shocks. Apart from vintage cars, sports cars will also be auctioned off. A 1999 Ferrari 360 GT Race Car is expected to be one of the many sports cars which will attract the attention of event goers.

The Nissan Sentra

Who would ever forget this famous sedan car in the US car market? Everybody is familiar with this vehicle and I guess I don’t even have to speak much about it. But anyway not everybody knows its history. Let me bring you a slight snippet of the Nissan Sentra history.

The Nissan Sentra is small car made by the Japanese automaker Nissan Motors. Sunny was the real name of the Sentra in the Japanese car market. It certainly does not have Dodge heater cores as one of its car parts. The Sentra name is not used in Japan but the current model in Japan is named the Bluebird Sylphy.

In the US, the current Sentra is a compact car and is presently in competition with other compact cars such as the Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cobalt, Mitsubishi Lancer, VW Jetta, and the Honda Civic. The MSRP for the Nissan Sentra in the US is $15,000 for a base model to $21,000 for a loaded top-of-the-line Sentra. Previous models were subcompacts. However, Nissan had to replace the Sentra with another subcompact car called Nissan Versa. It is rated by EPA as a midsize car because of its interior volume.
